Random Zombies

I’m still working on the backlog! Here’s some zombie movie reviews.

Burial Ground

From some deep-down excavation of old ruins from the pre-Roman Etruscan era, the archaeologist Professor Ayers (Raimondo Barbieri) recovers an ancient tablet covered in magical runes (the largest and most central one being, er, a smiley face). Studying it in the posh manor adjacent to the site, he realises some hidden meaning in the inscription, and returns to the dig site to test his theory. As he knocks away at the wall the plaque came from ancient sarcophagi swing open, and zombies emerge to feast upon him. (We already know that we are going to be in for a bumpy ride when we see that the zombie make-up doesn’t cover the first zombie’s fingers at all, so it looks like they are a horribly rotten corpse with perfectly fresh digits.)

The next day George (Roberto Caporali), owner of the manor, returns home after a long six-month trip with his new wife Evelyn (Mariangela Giordano), new stepson Michael (Pietro Barzocchini), and a bunch of adult friends in tow. The adult couples celebrate their return with some unnecessary sex scenes (several of which involve the women cavorting around in lingerie whilst the dudes just wear their ordinary clothes), but Michael seems disturbed by something (though he’s disturbing enough himself, the little creep), and one of the guests, Janet (Karin Well), is perturbed by premonitions of something terrible. The family and servants note that the Professor is nowhere to be found, but don’t ascribe much importance to it; meanwhile, in the ruins, the Etruscan zombies mass for their attack…
